Our Mission

The Lung Cancer Society of Long Island is a not-for-profit organization founded in 2001 by Lung Cancer advocates for the purpose of eradicating this disease by advancing and promoting lung cancer early detection, research, education and prevention and to support those whose lives are touched by lung cancer.

Did You Know?

  • 1 in 14 men and women will be diagnosed with cancer of the lung and bronchus during their lifetime.
  • Most cases of lung cancer are diagnosed too late. Only 15 percent of lung cancer cases are detected when the cancer is localized, but when lung cancer is detected at a localized stage, the 5-year survival rate is 52.9 percent. Unfortunately, 56 percent of lung cancer cases are diagnosed when the cancer has already metastasized. The survival rate for lung cancer diagnosed at this stage is only 3.5 percent.
