Our Mission

The Lung Cancer Society of Long Island is a not-for-profit organization founded in 2001 by Lung Cancer advocates for the purpose of eradicating this disease by advancing and promoting lung cancer early detection, research, education and prevention and to support those whose lives are touched by lung cancer.

It is worth noting that since 1987, more women have died each year of lung cancer than of breast cancer. Lung cancer deaths among women increased 150% between 1974 and 1994; by contrast, deaths for men increased by 20%. Women now account for more than half of all lung cancer cases.
